2023 Alumni Report
Culverhouse College of Business
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Culverhouse is making moves.
We have a mission, which is to be recognized as a world-class business college, and we are working hard to get there. Just recently, in fact, we climbed from 49th to 39th overall in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Undergraduate Business Programs" rankings for 2022-2023, and from 30th to 26th among public programs. More impressively still, we produce graduates like Alex Plavin, who balances a successful management consulting career with founding a growing and nationally-recognized gourmet foods company.
Our Manderson MBA program also jumped two places in overall ranking from 57th in 2022-2023 to 55th this year, now 26th among all public institutions, and 5th in the SEC. But we are even prouder to be able to produce MBA graduates like Rosemary Hartline-Neal, who rose from poverty to land a leadership-development track position at one of the most selective consulting firms in the world.
So yes, Culverhouse is making moves to realize our mission, but we also know that we cannot do it without you, because you are an essential part of our story.
We have enjoyed connecting with you at alumni events in your city. Your excitement about Culverhouse grows our network throughout the country and lets us engage other alums as well as serve new students. As the largest college at The University of Alabama, we prepare thousands of students for fruitful, world-changing careers in business — and while it’s too early to tell, the incoming cohort this fall is expected to be the largest yet.
Your generous giving with Rising Tide—$140,117,466 as of early May—allows us to meet the needs of the College and our students, for example, helping students travel to Panama to study international business, as Ken Tidwell does, or to renovate Alston Hall, as Ari and Ann Deshe have done.
And your participation in Culverhouse through mentoring students, connecting them with other alumni, giving talks or leading experiences, or just being available for a Zoom chat or a cup of coffee is nothing short of invaluable.
We are making moves, and we need you to move with us.
Because we are all Culverhouse, and this is our mission.
Roll Tide!

Nick Foster to Lead Fundraising at Culverhouse
The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business is pleased to announce that Nick Foster will lead strategic fundraising activities as executive director of development. He has been in the role since June of 2022.
Foster is already familiar with Culverhouse and UA’s mission and fundraising needs. He comes from UA’s Division of Advancement, where he was executive director of colleges and schools. In that role, he was responsible for establishing best practices, strategic direction, vision, and leadership for fundraising and constituent engagement for six of UA’s eleven colleges and schools.
“Nick is a natural fit for this highly-critical role and we know him well from his work elevating and accelerating the UA fundraising engine,” said Culverhouse Dean Kay Palan. “He is a team leader and a natural collaborator — I am simply excited to see how Nick will grow and sustain our College’s efforts.”
Foster’s arrival comes at an especially important juncture. The University of Alabama is in the middle of the $1.5B Rising Tide capital campaign, with $1.1B raised to date. Culverhouse itself is tasked with raising $200M and has already booked $124M from over 5,100 donors.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the Culverhouse College of Business as we seek to secure the College’s future with greater levels of philanthropy,” Foster said.
Foster explained his vision: “Private support will be critical for Culverhouse to thrive in the years ahead and will have a
significant impact on advancing our vision to be recognized as a world-class business college where teacher-scholars and bright students engage in life-changing educational experiences.”
He has over ten years of experience working with individual, corporate, and foundation donors and is adept at building teams by developing people, processes, and systems to drive efficiencies and results.
Before his time at UA, he held fundraising positions at The University of Virginia, The University of Southern Mississippi, and The Learning Tree.
Foster immigrated to the US in 2008. He earned a bachelor’s degree in England from the University of Wolverhampton. He then went on to work in the music industry developing and producing a spectrum of events from live performances, festivals, marketing activations, and hospitality events on a global scale.
