Thinkers. Citizens. Leaders.

Dear Honors College Community,

This year, the Honors College took a significant step forward. After 16 months of listening, reflection and collaboration with more than 600 members of our community, we launched
Honors Forward, our strategic plan and vision for the future of Honors at The University of Alabama.

At the heart of that vision is a belief that an Honors education should do more than recognize exceptional students. It should challenge them to think deeply, engage meaningfully with the world and develop the courage and capacity to lead.

It should create the conditions for talented students to discover not only what they can accomplish, but also how their gifts can serve others.

Throughout 2025–2026, we saw that vision taking shape. Students pursued original research, tested ideas across disciplines, served alongside community partners and transformed their learning into meaningful action. They completed 187 Capstone Experiences, including 17 projects serving rural Alabama communities. They earned prestigious national awards and brought curiosity, creativity and purpose to our classrooms, programs and campus. Focused advising and student support also contributed to meaningful gains in persistence and progress toward graduation.

These accomplishments matter not simply because they are impressive, but because they reveal what is possible when exceptional students are surrounded by exceptional opportunities, committed mentors and a community that believes in their potential.

The pages that follow celebrate a remarkable year, but they also offer a glimpse of the Honors College we are building together.
Honors Forward calls us to be more ambitious in our ideas, more intentional in creating community and more expansive in the opportunities we provide. It gives us a clear path and invites each of us to help shape what comes next.

Thank you for believing in our students and in the transformative power of Honors education. I am deeply grateful for your partnership and excited about the future before us.

ROLL TIDE!

A BOLD STEP FORWARD

Honors Forward, launched in February 2026, establishes a bold vision for the future of The University of Alabama Honors College. Developed through a collaborative process involving students, faculty, staff, alumni and campus partners, the strategic plan is built around three key skills: Thinkers, Citizens and Leaders.

The plan outlines initiatives to strengthen academic excellence, expand experiential and community-based learning and create new opportunities for students to lead with purpose both on campus and beyond. Honors Forward serves as a roadmap for the next five years, ensuring the Honors College continues to evolve while remaining committed to innovation, collaboration and student success.

RRSP LAB IMPROVEMENTS

The Randall Research Scholars Program (RRSP) continued its investment in the student experience through a redesign of its program space in Honors Hall. The project was created to foster greater collaboration and strengthen the sense of community at the heart of RRSP. Founded in 1968 as the Computer-Based Honors Program, RRSP is a nationally recognized undergraduate research program that pairs exceptional, highly motivated students with leading research professors. The redesigned space provides a welcoming home for that community, giving students a place to work, connect and collaborate.

A COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

The RRSP community helped the lab redesign campaign reach its $40,000 goal. John and Mary Baschab provided a 1-to-1 match, while Beth and Michael Clingaman matched the first $5,000 in gifts. Their generosity reflects the strong community behind RRSP.
