Podcasters create space to share
about personal lives, success, dreams in
hopes of inspiring others to do the same

When six ladies from the Gandhi-King Scholarly Exchange Initiative decided to create a podcast, they did so with the intention of creating a safe space to laugh, share success stories, tell personal experiences, and more with the hopes of inspiring other women to do the same.
“The purpose of this podcast (is) to encourage other women to join in on the conversation and relate as they journey through their way of life. (It) is a place for community, collaboration, and comedy,” said Trianna Lawson, one of the hosts of the new podcast “Remembering the Recipes.”
Co-hosts Jhamya Moton, Nataly Aguilar-Nieto, Kaila Pouncy, KaLeah Taylor, and Jordan Watkins will join Lawson as they each lead conversations on what they are most passionate about, with the others contributing to the discussions as well. Their goal is to release the first episode via YouTube by Nov. 1.
With the diversity in each host’s professional background and interests, “Remembering the Recipes” will cover a wide variety of topics with guests also participating in the discussions after the first few episodes.
“We felt as if so many other women would be able to relate and learn their own way through life by listening and engaging with us...”
Since Lawson’s background is focused mainly on public health, that is one area she will address as well as overcoming childhood trauma, spirituality and religion, among others.
“Jhamya has a deep interest in interdisciplinary studies, and KaLeah’s focus is implementing Black history as a means to continuously diversify education aiding in systemic oppression,” she said. “Kaila is extremely interested in women in politics and ending mass incarceration, Jordan’s focus is higher education, and Nataly is especially focused on increasing representation of Hispanic women in business and education.”
The Gandhi-King exchange program ultimately brought these six women together, but what truly bonded them and inspired this podcast was hearing about one another’s lives, each woman’s experiences and passions, her hopes and dreams.
“We felt as if so many other women would be able to relate and learn their own way through life by listening and engaging with us during our conversations,” Lawson said.
Keep an eye out for “Remembering the Recipes,” available to stream soon on YouTube.
“The advertising has already begun, especially by word of mouth and social media, but we continue to tell people how excited we are and how we believe (the podcast) could help them,” Lawson and Taylor said. “Regardless of societal identifiers, if you are looking for a community to talk about real-life issues and ways to elevate your life individually as well as those around you, then this podcast is for you.”
