Student Opportunities at the Alabama Museum of Natural History
Education Program / Tour Development
This position will work with the Alabama Museum of Natural History's (ALMNH) Education Outreach Coordinator and/or any other faculty members, UA Museums staff, or UA Collections staff to develop a program(s) and/or tour(s) that meet(s) the educational and engagement goals of ALMNH.
Internship Requirements: a background in science (biology, geology, chemistry, etc.) or education (informal or formal) through training and/or volunteer service; an interest in storytelling, science education, and community engagement; knowledge of interpretation techniques; familiarity with navigating research articles and trustworthy sources; strong written and verbal communication skills; experience leading hands-on exploration programming

Exhibit Planning & Research
The Alabama Museum of Natural History (ALMNH) has internship opportunities available for students, recent graduates, and emerging museum professionals. Through this internship, you will work with the Research Outreach Coordinator and/or any other faculty members, UA Museums staff, or UA Collections staff to research a topic approved by the Director of ALMNH. This topic can be related to the student’s research or interests. Depending on availability, the student will be able to install and work with the Research Outreach Coordinator to design the exhibition. This position also works closely with ALMNH's Education Outreach Coordinator.
Internship Requirements: an interest in storytelling, knowledge of how to find primary sources, familiarity with navigating archives (example: Hoole Special Collections and the Geological Survey of Alabama), strong writing and communication skills, creative and visual thinking skills, graphic design skills are a plus (example: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Canva), 3D rendering skills are a plus (example: SketchUp)
