STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

The University of Alabama Student Government Association is grateful for the generosity of the friends and alumni who have invested more than $700,000 in SGA’s future. For 110 years, SGA has equipped many of Alabama’s – and America’s – most impactful leaders through hands-on leadership and service, creating programs and opportunities that improve students’ lives. Today, this legacy is strengthened through the SGA Endowed Support Fund, stewarded by student leaders to support projects that advance the academic, professional and personal growth of their peers. From scholarships and student services to new initiatives that expand what works, these gifts empower students to serve students for generations to come. Every contribution carries forward a tradition of leadership, generosity and service — ensuring SGA can continue to shape lives and strengthen the University for years to come.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends of SGA,

Over the last two years, thanks to your generosity, we have raised over $700,000 to support the future of the Student Government Association.

One of the greatest joys of my term as SGA President has been meeting with the alumni and student leaders who have shaped this campus. When I sit down with SGA alumni, I hear a common story: SGA is where their public service began. It was where future doctors, lawyers, executives and elected officials first learned that leadership begins with serving others. For generations, students have entered SGA seeking an opportunity to make a difference — and left with experiences that shaped the people and leaders they would become.

These core lessons of generosity have shaped our campaign from its conception. Mike and Kathy Mouron extended their generous matching challenge to SGA, and Trustee Morrissette graciously hosted our Capital Campaign Kickoff. This year, Trustee Morrissette and Jon Macklem supported an incredible alumni reception in Point Clear, and 75 parents, students and friends of SGA rallied behind our 48-hour Bama Blitz Giving Campaign. Our efforts have gained momentum because of the leadership of Samad Gilanni and our campaign chairs, Senator Katie Boyd Britt and Dr. Kathleen Cramer. This effort carries their fingerprints, and I am indebted to each of them.

The generosity of our supporters is already at work. We've established the SGA Endowed Support Fund Committee, a voting body made up entirely of students, to steward these funds. SGA members are now submitting funding requests for projects that advance the academic, professional, and personal growth of their peers.

We are also proud to have leveraged this campaign to name spaces in the office: the Jessica Sanders Executive Vice President Office, the Kathleen Cramer Lobby, the Espy-McGiffert President’s Office, and the Melford Espey Advising Space, pending board approval. Every student who walks through our office will be reminded of the legacy they're inheriting and the responsibility that comes with it.

Thank you for standing with us. Let's finish what we started.

Gratefully,

Samantha Simmons
